THEN AND NOW

Rashida Jones’ Hair Story

Rashida Jones, award-winning actress, writer, producer, and director, joins Hårklinikken as Partner & Creative Advisor. As a longtime user of Hårklinikken, she shares her story from postpartum hair loss to eventual growth.

Rashida has always had fine hair. From childhood, she was aware of it — the way it required patience, the way it felt fragile. It wasn't until her 40s after having her son, that what she describes as a quiet insecurity became something she could no longer set aside.

"People told me I would lose my hair because you hold on to all of your hair, and then you just drop it the minute you have a baby," she says. "And that happened — but then it didn't come back."

Postpartum shedding is common, but what is less commonly discussed is when the hair does not return on its expected timeline — and that absence may be a sign of the body's broader hormonal imbalance. For Rashida, who was also beginning to notice the early signs of perimenopause, the experience was compounding.

"I've learned a lot about hormones in the last eight to ten years, because I've had to," she says. "Everything from mood to metabolism to hair growth — hormones are such a big part of that."

A trusted referral brought Rashida to Hårklinikken founder Lars Skjøth. Her first conversation with Lars came before she was accepted as a client. Hårklinikken's consultation-based approach requires that clients be at least 12 months postpartum before beginning the program, so that natural regrowth cycles may be properly accounted for and any results attributed accurately to the Extract rather than to the body's own recovery.

"I wanted to get in there — and now it's something I very much respect and appreciate," she says. "Lars really prides himself on what kind of efficacy they can have in somebody's life. He wanted to make sure that I was actually seeing results from the program."

"It was explained to me that an extract would be created, customized for me, based on taking pictures and explaining what I eat, what supplements I take, my blood work — things that are the foundation of health, not just what you see on the surface," she says.

"I remember thinking, my hair looks really good — and then right after that, I started to notice changes. To hear that I could go back to that moment was really exciting.”

Lars told her he believed they could return her hair to where it had been in her late 30s — a period she remembers as the first time she had felt genuinely at ease with it. That possibility was significant to her.

"That hit me really hard," she says. "I remember thinking, my hair looks really good — and then right after that, I started to notice changes. To hear that I could go back to that moment was really exciting."

Rashida came to Hårklinikken having already tried other products — things that felt, as she puts it, "too toxic," or that lacked the personal element she was looking for. She wanted to understand the science behind what she was applying. She wanted to see the data.

She appreciated that the program was built on compliance, clinical rigor, and ongoing personalization. Her award-winning Hair Gain Extract, hand-blended and individually formulated, was applied nightly in two rounds, with a scalp massage to support absorption and circulation. Her formula evolved over time as her hair and scalp responded.

“I look at my scalp, my hairline, the length of my hair, the way it grows and I actually can't believe it.”

"Lars showed me the data and the drop-off," she says. "If you're 100 percent compliant — you use the extract every single night, you use the shampoo — versus if you skip two nights a month: I was like, okay, no. I'm going for gold."

She has remained fully compliant for nearly eight years.

“I look at my scalp, my hairline, the length of my hair, the way it grows and I actually can't believe it,” she says. “Sometimes I'll catch a shadow behind my hair and I'll see all this new growth underneath my long hair."

People now comment on the shine of her hair — something she had never associated with herself. "I've just never felt like a shiny-haired person," she says. "That's all Hårklinikken."

The emotional dimension of the transformation has perhaps been the most quietly significant part. Hair loss during midlife — particularly when layered with the hormonal shifts of perimenopause — may carry a weight that is rarely spoken about with candor.

“Unless I had these results, I probably would have never talked about it publicly. I hope it gives somebody the courage to take care of themselves and not feel like they're alone."

Rashida's relationship with Hårklinikken is grounded in a shared philosophy, a commitment to ongoing curiosity, scientific rigor, and long-term thinking over quick solutions. For someone who has built a career on thoughtful, considered creative work, the alignment felt natural.

"A family friend once told me that beauty is a depreciating asset — that our brains and our character are appreciating assets, and we should invest there. I believe that. But confidence is real and important too. I try not to fixate on my looks, though I do want to feel healthy and recognize myself. Hårklinikken fits that. It's about what I can do for myself — aligned with a company that has a deep commitment to science and research. The end result is feeling better when I leave the house. That's enough for me," she shares.

Rashida offers vulnerability and grace about her personal challenges with postpartum shedding and perimenopause in her 40s, which is something so many women face in silence. Her journey is a beautiful reminder that lasting results arise when we honor our bodies with patience and care.

By stepping away from the pressure of instant gratification and trusting a mindful, deeply intentional process, Rashida proves that when we give our changing biology the time it truly needs to heal, we don’t just restore our hair, we reclaim our foundational confidence.
